Hong Kong Airport to provide free WiFi for all

Here is some good news for the international traveler to the far east looking for a connection to the internet. Hong Kong International Airport is launching free WiFi Internet access throughout the entire airport. According to the airport this move represents the largest wireless broadband coverage available at a major international airport, with wall-to-wall service accessible throughout the Hong Kong International Airport passenger terminal building.

WiFi Internet access has been available at the airport since 2003 – but by extending coverage and offering the service free to users, HKIA hopes to convey an important message to all travelers about Hong Kong’s determination to be a regional leader in Information and Communications Technologies.

Airport Authority Hong Kong Commercial Director Hans Bakker says;

"Over 70% of airport users expressed that they are likely to use the free wireless Internet connection service here. By providing the latest technologies, such as WiFi Internet access throughout the airport, we are extending the enjoyment and convenience aspects of the traveling experience offered by HKIA”

Well can't argue with that. But 70% does seems like a very large percentage of travelers. I suppose if it is free and and accessible then perhaps it is realistic. However 70% of travelers does represent a large number of simultaneous users, and it would be interesting to know how that effects the quality and stability of the signal.
